SPECIALTY TRADE COORDINATION

Structural steel and welding

Coordinate fabricated steel or welding work from approved engineering details and verified field dimensions. Define shop work, site access, lifting and connection inspection before fabrication is released.

Specialist qualifications, responsibility and availability are confirmed for your project.

START WITH THE DETAILS

What goes into
the work.

Identify the system, location, fixtures or affected area. Provide reports and plans if available. Specialist diagnosis and technical sizing remain with the appropriate professional.

Typical scope to confirm

  • Review engineered member, connection and anchorage details
  • Coordinate field measurements and shop drawings where required
  • Define fabrication, delivery, erection and specified inspection responsibilities

Make it specific to your project.

Enter the amount of work and choose the details you know. Your choices follow you into the Project Builder.

SCOPE-SPECIFIC PRICING

Your scope sets the price.

Engineered fabrication and installation of a defined steel assembly. A numeric range is withheld until the scope and relevant costs are known.

A planning reference for this service only. Selections, local labor, access, quantities and existing conditions need Coastal’s review. Do not add overlapping whole-project and component ranges.

What changes the price

  • Member sizes, quantity and connection complexity
  • Shop versus field welding and inspection
  • Delivery route, lifting equipment and temporary support
What the reference covers
  • Specified fabrication and installation
Allow for these separately
  • Unengineered structural substitutions
  • Crane or lift access automatically included
  • Fire protection and decorative enclosure unless listed
  • Engineering, lifting, inspection and coatings unless itemized

KNOW WHAT COMES NEXT

From first idea to finished work.

  1. Plan the scope

Confirm loads, connection details, steel specifications and qualified fabrication.

  2. Prepare and approve

Have the appropriate specialist confirm design, access, permits and equipment.

  3. Complete the work

Coordinate the approved work with other trades and any inspection hold points.

  4. Review and close out

Test the work and collect applicable inspection and product records.

PERMIT PLANNING

Check the scope and jurisdiction

New or altered electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems need permit review. Edmond lists limited minor-repair exceptions; OKC directs permitted trade work through licensed, registered contractors.

  • New circuits, relocated fixtures or altered piping
  • New or altered heating, cooling, gas or exhaust systems
  • Changes beyond the local minor-repair exemption

ENGINEERING & DESIGN

Confirm design requirements

Review the load path, existing supports and proposed changes before work. An engineer may be needed for nonstandard spans, added loads, damage or a reviewer-requested design; a permit alone does not mean every detail needs engineering.

  • Load-bearing changes or uncertain framing
  • Nonstandard spans, concentrated loads or damaged supports
  • Soil, foundation or retaining conditions beyond an approved design

Confirm requirements with the city or county responsible for the property before work begins. The address, exact scope and adopted code determine the final requirements.

PRODUCT RESEARCH

Brands & real-world examples.

Manufacturer references help compare options. They do not imply a Coastal dealership, endorsement, or a product selected for your project.

Structural steel is specified by grade, section, fabrication and connection requirements; choosing a consumer brand is not meaningful.
